Christmas is just around the corner and if we have cats at home we have to take into account some objects, plants or food that can harm them.

We love Christmas, but our cats don't quite understand it. It is true that we love to see how they snoop around the Christmas decorations or how they end up destroying the tree. But in all this, we have to be careful and prevent dangerous situations for our pets.
Well, here are some tips to make Christmas cat-friendly.
The Christmas tree
We already know that cats are curious and excellent climbers, so any Christmas ornament or decoration will immediately attract them. Of course, this is where the Christmas tree comes in.
To avoid possible accidents, we must make sure that the base of the tree is well fixed and can not fall, avoid glass balls and put the ornaments as high as possible so that they are not within reach. Wooden, straw or hard plastic ornaments are recommended.
In addition, depending on the material of the tree, it can leave traces that can harm your pet.
Nowadays, there are countless Christmas trees and decorations compatible with cats (scratching posts, felt trees...).
Christmas decorations
Continuing with the other decorations, cats can turn these ornaments into toys. That is why it is important to choose well or place dangerous ornaments far from their reach.
Wool, garlands or Christmas lights pose a risk to our pets, as they can become entangled.
Gifts
Our cat is part of our family and it is normal that we want to give him a gift for these dates, but we must check that the toys and gifts are safe for them. It is advisable to buy toys specifically for cats, in stores specialized in animals, since others could have small parts or not be suitable for them.
In addition, when giving gifts, we have to take into account that ribbons and torn wrapping paper can exert a great force of attraction on them, so we must pick it up quickly so that they can not swallow anything.
Christmas food
Christmas also stands out for its family meals and sweets. We have to keep in mind that chocolate is toxic for cats.
Similarly, we should avoid giving them leftovers of our food, as it may be too fatty or salty for our pets. In addition, also note that foods such as onions or chicken bones can be very dangerous for them.

Christmas plants
The typical Christmas plants, called poinsettias, are toxic for cats. The simple contact of the flowers with the animal can generate a cutaneous reaction.
That is why it is important, if you have a cat at home, to avoid this type of plant at all costs. Neither leave it in a high place, nor put it away, it is better to avoid it.
Visits at home
With family and friends visits, our pets can suffer stress. For that reason, it is advisable to prepare a quiet room for our cat, so that it can rest and enjoy Christmas in its own way.
