To coexist and maintain a good relationship with your pet, here are the ten cat commandments to keep in mind.

If you are lucky enough to have one or more cats in your home, you will be interested to know what we should do or not do to respect our pet and create a bond with it.

1. You will love your cat above all things

It was obvious to start with this one, and it should be the first one! Although cats are known to be aloof, our pets need a lot of affection.

Even if they don't show it by asking for cuddles, our furry friends like to be listened to, whether it's by putting their favorite food, playing with them, giving them their space, sleeping near them or giving them cuddles.

Even the most surly cat feels loved if its space is respected and it is listened to.

2. You will not wake your cat in vain

Cats can sleep up to 22 hours a day, especially if they are kittens, very old or in cold weather.

We know they are very adorable when they are asleep, but waking them up with noises or sudden movements can scare them and cause them a lot of stress.

3. You will make the holidays compatible

Make sure that the holidays do not pose a danger or too much stress for your pet.

Avoid dangerous decorations, such as glass, pyrotechnics or loud noises.

Remember that a party is fun if we all have fun. In our blog you can find tips about Christmas and cats or how to decorate your home to make your cat feel at home.

4. Honor your pets

Well, this goes a little bit together with the first commandment, since a little bit of spoiling doesn't hurt. Some cuddles, toys, a comfortable bed, a scratching post, a clean sandbox, water and food.... The typical things a pet can ask for, always respecting its space and taking into account the signals it gives us with its body language.

5. Thou shalt not harm or abandon cats

It's obvious, isn't it? But it is necessary to remember it, since we have seen and lived horrible situations of abandonment, neglect and mistreatment.

Also, before adopting an animal, think if you can keep it and maintain it. And if at some point you see that you cannot take care of it, look for alternatives, since a domestic cat does not survive in the street. You can look for a new family, contact a shelter, but never abandon your pet to its fate.

6. You will take your pet to the veterinarian

Exactly, your pet needs some care to be in optimal conditions.

It is important to keep up to date vaccinations, deworming and go to your veterinary clinic as soon as possible to any sign of disease or doubt about their health.

The average life expectancy of a cat is usually between 12 and 14 years, although domestic cats can live up to 20 years, if they are well cared for and do not suffer from any chronic disease.

7. You will sterilize your cat

In addition to avoiding many diseases such as pyometra, mammary tumor or sertolinoma, you will prevent your pet from escaping and unwanted litters.

8. You will not lie to your veterinary specialist

The role of the veterinarian is very important for the health and well-being of your pet. The veterinarian wants only the best for your feline companion, so honesty is important so that your pet can heal or stay healthy for a long time. It is also important to follow their advice and recommendations.

9. Respect your cat's space

No one likes to be snogged, hugged, and swarmed all day, so respect your pet's space to avoid a possible scratch.

We must also take into account the body language of our pet, as it helps us to deduce if he/she will be receptive or not.

10. Never caress forbidden areas

Cats have no-go areas that they rarely let you touch them, mostly because they don't like it, feel helpless or it bothers them. So keep this in mind when petting your pet.

If your pet allows himself to be petted in any forbidden area, feel lucky.
